What kinds of tests are given in IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is composed of four different tests. If you are planning to take the IELTS, listed below are the four parts of the test which are given in the following order:

Listening test. The listening test takes about 30 minutes. You are given 20 minutes to listen to a tape and to answer the questions on what you hear. Another 10 minutes is given to transfer your answers to the Answer Sheet.

Reading test. The reading test lasts for an hour. You are given a text to read and should answer the questions according to what you have read.

Writing test. The writing test also takes an hour. It is divided into 2 sub-parts: 20 minutes for letter/report writing and 40 minutes for an essay.

Speaking test. The speaking test which takes 15 minutes consists of 3 parts: Personal Interview, Little Speech and Discussion.

The tests are given one after the other and the break is allowed only after the Speaking test.
